The Steamer does it's shunty thing in Muckleford. Muckleford, some shunty steam train and some consist. The Derm comes into Muckleford. The Derm arrives at Muckleford. The Derm in Muckleford, that shed to the right is about the only building around. The DERM and some thingy beside it in The Middle of Nowhere; Muckleford. The Derm set to haul the carraige consist back to Castlemainem, just kidding. The line breaks up just outside Castlemaine as shown by this path with two pedestrian crossings. Steam train in Castlemaine Getting closer. Steamer crosses the level crossing in Castlemaine. There it goes. This is why they call them steam trains. Castlemaine station and the yards. The triple header on its way to Castlemaine for the Tour 'The Maldon Experience' Triple header gets nearer. Well that's the triple header anyways. A steamer just leaving Castlemaine. Where'd it go? The second part of the triple header returns back to Maldon, the double header. There it is again. Double header rounds the curve on it's way back to Maldon as part of the tour 'The Maldon Experience'. Double header gets closer. Double headed steamer crosses the level crossing. There it goes. However disaster struck when they reached this so called weir a few kilometres into their journey. Attempts to cross the weir were made, one of them nearly got stuck. This forced them to abandon their journey and return covered in mud. Join me for an adventure across Melton's red dusty desert in search of a so called Weir Viaduct. Is the legend true? Does a vast weir really lie at the base of this red rocky region? See for yourself. Just outside the township of Melton the exploration begins. Here the V'Locipede species are a major inhabitant of this region, the above shows one crossing. And there it goes, these creatures aren't known to be harmful unless you agitate them by standing in their way. A tornado of dust was one of a few things I had to look out for. P class and H set enter a cutting on the way to the Weir viaduct. There it goes. What is that in the distance? Alas the Legend may be true! Further exploration must be undertaken to ensure a weir exists beneath. A 2 Car Sprinter reaches the viaduct. A 2 Car Sprinter on the viaduct. A successful safe journey across the weir. The Sprinters safely cross the weir. A P class pushes H set carraiges accross the Weir Viaduct. The set safely crosses the Weir Viaduct. I was forced to abandon exploration at this point as the Weir didn't look in any way crossable. At least I could return with knowledge of the Weir. And there lies the Weir! From underneath the viaduct. Artistic thing ain't it? An endangered species, the A class, crossing through vast desert. The A class enters some rocky territory. P class and H set crosses the vast desert. P class and H set get closer. Push-Pull H enters some rocky territory. An N Set, rare for this region of Victoria, approaches. Comes closer. Another V'Locipede crosses through. An N class loco hauls H set carraiges out of the Township of Melton. Getting closer Picks up speed. The conductor sits beside a Sprinter as it waits for an Up Ballarat to return from the Great Weir. A zoom in of the last shot

Getting closer! There it goes. Leawarra Station, tiny thing ain't it? My transport is here, I'm getting around on the Stony Point train to gunzel the Stony Point train. Ironic isn't it? Here it comes! Sits at Hastings Station. Leaving Hastings station. There it goes. Crossing level crossing on an up journey on the down side of Hastings. Confusing? Dw, you're not the only one. A successful afternoon of Stony Point gunzelling completed, very punctual, perfect weather, I well reccomend it because it ain't gonna be around much longer. An original livered Sprinter sitting in Frankston yard with the existing transportation equipment for Stony Point sitting behind it. Unfortunately one station too far away to get the frequent passenger services Seymour gets, this small town has a nice pebble surfaced platform, a fantastic bridge, and other features worth a look at. ]]> Fri Sep 28 2007 Gunzelling across the streams of Seaholme http://gunzel-cam.fotopic.net/c1377084.html Finally I have visited this much area deprived of gunzelling. Seaholme is a nice beachy town in the west of Melbourne, neglected mainly because of nearby Newport, and its isolation behind industrial areas and vacant land. Fantastic town, see for yourself. These things where everywhere! A shot of the grass I had to walk through to get most of my shots. I was worried about snakes, surprisingly I saw none. After visiting Seaholme, I took a visit to Footscray. Here an A class haul took me by surprise, the lens cap went flying and nearly fell down the embankment as I took this shot. Motion blur! Nonetheless, went better than expected. Please Enjoy! ]]> Sun Jan 1 2006 4D http://gunzel-cam.fotopic.net/c1322461.html During the early 90's the government considered a plan to bring in a fleet of double deck trains. These were to be called "4D" and built based on Sydney's Tangara design with major modifications to run on Melbourne's network. They brought in one 4 carraige prototype set which mostly ran revenue services on the Lilydale line. After a change of government the double deck idea was discarded and the remaining sets were never built. This one of a kind train continued to run on the Ringwood line into the Millenium failing countless times and became expensive to fix and retired around 2002. The 4D then spent the rest of its days in Newport workshops until it was scrapped in 2006. I was lucky enough to photograph this train on various occaisions and here is the collection I put together. Clean silver sides, the down end of the Hitachi as it shunts onto Eltham's Trestle. Grafittied in two ways here: Connex's livery and some punk's vandalism. Approach headlights yes, but this Hitachi is actually heading into the tunnel past Heidelberg Hitachi approaching the level crossing at Macleod. I was aiming for the train, instead I got a nice motion blur. There it goes... Check out the historic chimney in the background too, it's being dismantled. SRV Hitachi alongside a Comeng at Rosanna. SRV Hitachi descends the grade near Watsonia on return from Greensborough Descending into Macleod, nice motion blur too. Hitachi stabled inside Macleod, Destination: Port Melbourne. SRV Hitachi heads out to do the shunty thing. I should probably delete this shot, pretty crappy. Here it comes. SRV Hitachi shunts back to run the 4:40PM up service. 4:40PM up service is the SRV Hitachi and it approaches on the trestle.
